PULSE SESSIONS
Some moments call for closer attention.
A focused psychological consultation for adults who want to reflect on their wellbeing, make sense of a current situation or consider what may be helpful next, without committing to ongoing therapy.
Perspective for the Present
A Pulse Session is a focused, self-contained consultation with a psychologist, without the assumption of ongoing therapy. Whether you arrive with a defined question or a broader wish to reflect, together you will examine what is happening, develop a clearer understanding, organise your thinking and consider what may be helpful next.
Focused attention at a particular moment
Aconsultation bringing specialist psychological perspective to a current situation, transition, sustained demands at work or in life, a difficult decision or an emerging pattern.
An intentional wellbeing check-in
Dedicated time to reflect on your wellbeing, capacity and current pace, and consider whether anything needs closer attention. You may attend once or return periodically as an intentional approach to your wellbeing or as your circumstances and priorities evolve.

Consider what may help next
Bring together what has emerged and consider appropriate next steps. These might include practical adjustments, further reflection, a follow-up consultation or ongoing therapy.
Finding the right level of support
The same situation can sometimes be explored through either a Pulse Session or ongoing therapy. The distinction lies in the scope of support required, the depth of work involved and whether a continuing therapeutic relationship would be beneficial.
A Pulse Session may be suitable when you
One-off or periodic wellbeing check-in
Current concern, pressure, transition or decision
Specialist psychological perspective
Clarifying what may be helpful next
Ongoing therapy may be more appropriate when you
Persistent or recurring distress
Deeper exploration of established patterns or past experiences
Difficulties affecting daily life, work or relationships
A consistent therapeutic relationship over time
After you submit a request, REST will consider the information provided and confirm whether a Pulse Session appears to be an appropriate starting point. If another service may be more suitable, we will discuss this with you.
MOMENTS OF CLARITY
Questions about adult therapy
Do I need to have a particular problem in mind?
No. A Pulse Session can be used to think through a specific concern, or simply as a space to check in on your general wellbeing. You do not need a clearly defined problem or a diagnosis to find it useful.
Is a Pulse Session the same as therapy?
No. A Pulse Session is a focused, self-contained consultation rather than ongoing therapeutic work. It offers specialist psychological perspective on a current concern without the expectation of continuing sessions, though it can lead to ongoing therapy if that is recommended.
Can I use Pulse Sessions as periodic wellbeing check-ins?
Yes. Many people return for a Pulse Session from time to time, particularly around periods of change, pressure or transition, without needing to commit to a longer course of therapy.
What if I need a different form of support?
If your psychologist feels that ongoing therapy, a different service or additional support would be more appropriate, this will be discussed with you at the end of the session so you can consider the most suitable next step.
