It’s completely natural to feel low at times, especially in response to life’s challenges. However, when feelings of sadness persist for more than two weeks and are accompanied by changes in sleep, appetite, energy, concentration, or enjoyment in life, it may be a sign of depression. If your mood is affecting your ability to function day-to-day at work, in relationships, or within yourself, it may be time to seek professional support.
If you’re unsure, we encourage you to get in touch. An initial assessment at REST Therapy can help you better understand what you’re experiencing and explore the most supportive next steps.
-
Stress is typically a short-term response to a specific pressure or situation and often eases once the challenge is resolved. Anxiety disorders involve persistent, excessive worry or fear that may not be linked to a clear cause and can continue even after the original stressor has passed. If anxiety is affecting your sleep, work, relationships, or ability to manage daily life and especially if it's accompanied by physical symptoms it may be helpful to seek professional support.
-
If emotional, behavioural, or psychological difficulties are affecting your daily life, relationships, or work, or if you feel stuck, overwhelmed, or unable to resolve a concern on your own, professional input can be beneficial. You do not need to be in crisis to seek support; reaching out early can be helpful and meaningful, preventing issues from becoming entrenched, and helps you to decide whether therapy is the right fit.
-
Yes. Therapy is not limited to those with a clinical diagnosis. Many people seek support to better understand themselves, manage stress, navigate life changes, improve relationships, or explore their identity. Therapy can be helpful at any stage of life and for a wide range of reasons even if you’re simply feeling stuck or seeking to gain clarity during terms of uncertainty.
-
Your initial assessment session will focus on understanding what’s brought you to therapy and understand your current concerns. Collaboratively, you and the mental health professional will begin to develop a shared understanding of your needs and identify a therapeutic approach tailored to you.
-
At REST, confidentiality is a fundamental part of the therapeutic relationship.
Anything you share in sessions remains private and is handled in accordance with professional, ethical, and legal standards. Any limits to confidentiality, such as concerns about risk of harm to you or others will be clearly explained before therapy begins.
-
The duration of therapy varies depending on your goals and the nature of your difficulties. Some individuals benefit from brief, focused work, while others may engage in longer-term therapy. Your clinician will discuss this with you during the early stages of your work together.
-
It’s very common to experience more than one difficulty at the same time, and these are often interconnected. At REST, therapy offers a space to explore how your experiences relate to one another, helping you develop a deeper understanding of your patterns, triggers, strengths and responses. Rather than addressing each issue in isolation, we take a holistic approach in supporting you to make meaningful, lasting changes that enhance your overall wellbeing.
-
Progress is reviewed as an ongoing, collaborative process between you and the mental health professional. Regular check-ins, reflective dialogue, and evidence-based outcome measures are used to help evaluate the effectiveness of therapy. This approach allows us to adapt therapy as your needs evolve, ensuring it remains goal-focused and relevant. Feedback is always welcomed and plays a vital role in shaping a meaningful and responsive therapeutic experience.
-
Online therapy is a flexible and accessible option that works well for many people. It can be especially helpful if you value the convenience of attending sessions from home, travel frequently, or have limited time or access to in-person services. We are happy to explore this with you during your initial session to ensure it meets your needs and preferences.
-
